South Florida hires Charlie Strong
Charlie Strong will be USF's next head coach. Might the former Gamecocks defensive coordinator jump right in and coach the Birmingham Bowl?
South Carolina's Birmingham Bowl opponent has a new head coach. According to ESPN's Chris Low, South Florida has hired former Texas head coach Charlie Strong to be its next head coach.

Willie Taggart was the Bulls' head coach for their 10-2 season, but left to become the head coach at Oregon shortly after the two teams were slated for the December 29 bowl. South Florida co-offensive coordinator T.J. Weist was named the interim head coach and is in the process of preparing his team to face the Gamecocks (6-6). It was said prior to any hire that Weist would be the interim head coach for the remainder of the 2016 season. That was confirmed in a statement released by USF on the Strong hire.
Strong will take over the South Florida program in 2017. Strong has ties to the Gamecocks as their defensive coordinator from 1999-2002.
