Less than one week into fall camp, UAB has dismissed their leading receiver.

The school announced that senior wide receiver Jackie Williams has been dismissed from the team. Blazers head coach Garrick McGee issued a statement on Friday, but did not elaborate on the reasons for his dismissal.

"Jackie is a good kid and good player, but what's best for our football program is that we part ways," McGee said in an official statement.

Williams caught 52 passes last season, rising to No. 4 in school history with 140 career receptions and 1,733 yards. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound senior was listed as the No. 1 "Z" wide receiver on UAB's preseason depth chart. His listed backup is sophomore Nyiakki Height.

UAB now enters 2013 without their top three pass catchers from a season ago. Williams, Nick Adams and Patrick Hearn -- both seniors a year ago -- combined for 119 receptions in 2012. Jamarcus Nelson recorded two 100+ yard performances and caught four touchdown passes early in the season, but he suffered a groin injury in October that prevented him from contributing down the stretch.
