The next time Utah's fight song is sung at a Utes football game it could sound a bit different.

Utah's student government (Associated Students of the University of Utah, or ASUU) voted Tuesday to change a couple of lines in the school's fight song, "Utah Man." The lines in question were "I'm a Utah man" and "our coeds are the fairest." The suggested replacements are "I am a Utah fan" and "our students are the brightest," respectively. ASUU president Sam Ortiz said the lyrics have been "exclusive and offensive" to some of Utah's students.

"I think this fight song is setting a standard. It's allowing hurtful speech to be perpetrated," said ASUU member Alison Boyer. "Even if it was not intended to offend people, it's offensive to people now."

The results of the vote will now go to Utah president David Pershing who will be tasked with the decison to enact the change or not. Should Pershing decide to do so the changes could go into effect as soon as this fall.
