Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky announce three-game series
Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky have agreed to a three-game series -- two games in Nashville, one in Bowling Green -- between the 2015 and 2017 seasons.
We are officially two weeks away from the beginning of the 2013 season, but obviously you are far more interested in non-conference games that will be played a couple of years from now. So you're going to be super-excited about this.
“This series is a good idea for several reasons,” said Vanderbilt athletic director David Williams. “We are already playing several other nearby institutions and Western is only an hour up the road for the fan bases of both schools. And in this era of escalating travel costs and game expenses, it makes sense to stay at or near home when the opportunity arises.”
Vanderbilt will play host to Western Kentucky in 2015 and 2017, with the Hilltoppers hosting the Commodores -- am I the only one that wants to call them the Commies? -- in 2016. Which was appealing to WKU athletic director Todd Stewart.
“We are very excited to be adding Vanderbilt as a future football opponent,” said Stewart. “Our game in 2016 will mark the first ever football appearance by a member of the SEC on our campus, and it will be a great day for our university, fans and community. The away games also present a great opportunity for our fans, students and over 7,000 alumni in Nashville to support WKU football on the road.”
The schools have met three times before with Vanderbilt winning every meeting.
