Virginia Tech confident Logan Thomas returning to school

More than 70 juniors have declared for the NFL draft, but a decision from a high-profile quarterback remains: Virginia Tech's Logan Thomas.

Thomas is scheduled to announce his plans at around 3:45 p.m. EST on ESPN's College Football Live. A Virginia Tech source who spoke to Thomas on Saturday said Thomas "sounded good" about a return. Also,'s JC Shurburtt reports that Thomas is indeed returning.

Thomas is an intriguing prospect because of his 6-foot-6 frame coupled with athleticism and arm strength, but a rebound from his 16-interception performance in 2012 could help his stock in next year's draft.

"He doesn't want to go out on 7-6," said the VT source, regarding the Hokies' worst finish in 20 years.

Hired to anchor the offense is coordinator Scot Loeffler, colleague Bruce Feldman reports. Loeffler worked with Chad Henne and Tom Brady while he was a young assistant at Michigan but has led struggling offenses at Temple and Auburn the last two years. The Loeffler-Thomas experiment will deepen the football intrigue in Blacksburg this offseason.
