You know, for someone who is labeled as saying a lot without saying much, Nick Saban can sure go on some meaningful tirades.

The beauty in those rants from Alabama’s coach is that what inspires them is so completely arbitrary and the number of directions in which they could go is limitless. Case in point: Saban’s recent press conference with media members in which he went on a winding two-minute rant starting at ball control and ending somewhere around politics before circling back to the media.

It was spectacular to watch unfold. Poetic, actually, in its own way -- except for the person being yelled at. That stinks. You can check out Saban’s comments in the video player above.

“Where does that assumption come from? Or, do you do what everybody else in media does, just create some s---, throw it on all the wall and see what sticks. Which is what I see happening everywhere,” Saban said in response to a question about the Crimson Tide supposed moving to a ball control offense, which has not been stated or announced. “And the people who scream the loudest, you know, they get the attention and we have to pass some rule, alright, that everyone has to live with -- or some law -- and the consequences mess up a lot of other things.”

Somehow, football season feels a little bit closer.

Saban then mentioned the NCAA specifically regarding summer camps, who can coach at them and the involvement of third-parties with recruits. “It’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen,” said Saban, who also threw in a quick politics jab before moving back on to the reporter who asked the question.

There’s a lot to digest here. You’ll likely need time for this. But for now let’s just say Saban is fascinating to watch when he’s worked up. It just so happens someone in the press room is getting the wrong end of it.
