Through 3 Quarters

Down four at the end of last quarter, the Charlotte 49ers have now snagged the lead. After three quarters neither squad has the game in the bag, but the 49ers lead 17-14 over the Duke Blue Devils. So far, this is quite different from their previous head-to-head, which was decided by 34 points.

QB Chris Reynolds has led the way so far for Charlotte, as he has passed for one TD and 163 yards on 19 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown. Reynolds' 56-yard touchdown toss to WR Grant DuBose in the first quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the night.

With three sacks, the Charlotte defense has been a true menace for Duke's offensive line. We'll see how many sacks the 49ers can scare up the rest of the game.

Who's Playing

Duke @ Charlotte

Last Season Records: Charlotte 2-4; Duke 2-9

What to Know

The Duke Blue Devils and the Charlotte 49ers will face off at 7 p.m. ET Sept. 3 at Jerry Richardson Stadium to kick off their 2021 seasons. Returning after a rocky 2-9 season, the Blue Devils are aiming to prove that the past does not define them. Likewise, Charlotte struggled last year, ending up 2-4.

A couple numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: Few squads threw more interceptions than Duke, who was picked off 19 times. To make matters even worse for Duke, Charlotte threw only two interceptions last year, the fifth best among all teams in the nation.

Duke is the favorite in this one, with an expected 6.5-point margin of victory. A victory is hardly a sure thing, especially this early in the season, so expect a good game.
