UCF @ Navy
Current Records: UCF 2-1; Navy 0-3
What to Know
The UCF Knights have had a week off and are no doubt ready to get back on the field. UCF and the Navy Midshipmen will face off in an American Athletic battle at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday at Jack Stephens Field at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The Knights won't have the home-field advantage, but they do enjoy a 15-point advantage in the spread.
UCF might have drawn first blood against the Louisville Cardinals two weeks ago, but it was U of L who got the last laugh. UCF took a 42-35 hit to the loss column. They didn't live up to their potential and found themselves falling short of the 7-point advantage oddsmakers thought they had coming into the game. UCF's loss came about despite a quality game from QB Dillon Gabriel, who passed for three TDs and 188 yards on 29 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown and snatching one receiving TD.
Meanwhile, Navy came up short against the Houston Cougars last week, falling 28-20. No one had a standout game offensively for the Midshipmen, but they got one touchdown from QB Xavier Arline.
This next contest looks promising for the Knights, who are favored by a full 15 points. They may be expected to win, but bettors beware: they are 0-2 against the spread when favored.
The losses put UCF at 2-1 and Navy at 0-3. Two stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: UCF is 202nd worst in the nation in passing yards allowed per game, with 276 on average. The Midshipmen have experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the matchup with the 247th fewest passing yards per game in the nation, having accrued only 63.7 on average. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
