The Baylor Bears were expected to win this one, and they are just one quarter away from fulfilling that expectation. Sitting on a score of 24-13, they have looked like the better team out there today, but there's still one more quarter to play.

Baylor has enjoyed the tag-team combination of LB Abram Smith and RB Trestan Ebner. The former has rushed for two TDs and 80 yards on 16 carries, while the latter has picked up 116 yards on the ground on 15 carries. WR Marcell Barbee has led the way so far for the Texas State Bobcats, as he has snatched one receiving TD.

What to Know

The Texas State Bobcats and the Baylor Bears will face off at 7 p.m. ET Sept. 4 at Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium to kick off their 2021 seasons. Returning after a rocky 2-10 season, the Bobcats are aiming to prove that the past does not define them. Likewise, coming off of an uninspired 2-7 last-season record, Baylor has set their aspirations higher this year.

A couple last-season stats to keep an eye on: Texas State was second worst when it came to yards allowed per game last season, with the squad giving up 494.9 on average. Baylor experienced some struggles of their own as they ranked ninth worst in the nation with respect to yards per game last year, where the team accrued only 310.2 on average. So maybe these sore spots will just cancel each other out if things haven't changed too much in the offseason.

Since the experts predict a loss, Texas State will need to dig deep. Perhaps they'll be able to flip the script and come out with a big victory.
