Wisconsin quarterbacks Jon Budmayr and Bart Houston will miss 2012 season

While it's expected that transfer quarterback Danny O'Brien will earn the starting job at Wisconsin in 2012, the competition officially became easier on Wednesday.

Wisconsin announced that quarterbacks Jon Budmayr and Bart Houston will both miss the 2012 season as they deal with injuries.

Budmayr had been expected to be Wisconsin's starting quarterback in 2011 before former N.C. State quarterback Russell Wilson transferred to the school and helped lead the Badgers to a Big Ten title and the Rose Bowl. Budmayr spent the season on the sidelines after experiencing a nerve issue in the elbow of his throwing arm.

Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema says that Budmayr's arm is doing better, but now the junior needs hip surgery that will cost him the 2012 season. Budmayr has already used a redshirt season, so you have to wonder if he'll ever have a chance to play quarterback for Wisconsin.

Bart Houston is a highly touted recruit from California who is currently rehabbing from shoulder surgery. He was not expected to be able to compete for the starting quarterback job this fall, so the news that he'll miss the 2012 season is not unexpected.
