IUPUI vs Georgetown

Georgetown 81, IUPUI 58

WASHINGTON (AP) - Hollis Thompson had 21 points and 10 rebounds, Henry Sims added 14 and Nate Lubick had eight points and a career-high 14 rebounds as Georgetown pulled away from IUPUI in the second half for a convincing 81-58 win Monday night.

The Hoyas (5-1) led at halftime 32-31, and scored the first 10 points of the second half to go up 42-31. Jason Clark, who leads Georgetown in scoring with 19 points per game, had just one in the first half. He hit two free throws to start the second-half run. Markel Starks, who had 13 points, and Lubick each had two field goals during the spree.

The Jaguars (2-5) led for nearly all the first half. Alex Young, a 6-foot-6 senior forward, whose presence drew 10 NBA scouts in the half-empty Verizon Center, scored IUPUI's first 10 points. He made his first three shots, had 16 at halftime, but missed 11 of his last 12 and was scoreless in the second half.

IUPUI missed nine of its first 11 field goals in the second half. The Jaguars did get within seven with 8 minutes gone in the second half, but Thompson hit a pair of baskets and Greg Whittington added one for a 58-44 Georgetown lead midway through the half.

Georgetown missed 13 of its 17 3-point attempts, but had a season-low seven turnovers.

After hitting his first three shots, Young got cocky later in the first half when he threw up a 20-foot, off-balance leaner that missed the rim by about five feet.

Young sat for 2 minutes in the first half, and Georgetown tied the score at 27-all. Young came off the bench and with 2:11 to play and hit two free throws to give the Jaguars a 29-27 lead. Clark, who tied his career high with 26 against Memphis last Wednesday, hit one of two free throws, and Thompson hit a jumper with 1:35 left for a 30-29 lead.

It was the first game for the Hoyas since returning from the Maui Invitational, where they lost to No. 15 Kansas and beat No. 22 Memphis. In between those games, Georgetown handily beat Division II Chaminade. On Thursday, the Hoyas play at No. 12 Alabama, which is 7-0.

IUPUI, which plays in the Summit League, opens conference play on Thursday against South Dakota State.
