Boston University vs Boston College

Boston U. 75, Boston College 61

BOSTON (AP) - Darryl Partin scored 15 of his 27 points in the closing 8 1/2 minutes to help Boston University to a 75-61 victory over its crosstown rival Boston College on Saturday.

D.J. Irving added 17 points and Matt Griffin and Dom Morris each had 11 for the Terriers (4-4), who won their fourth straight for coach Joe Jones - an assistant under second-year Boston College coach Steve Donahue last season.

Lonnie Jackson led Boston College (2-6) with 11 points. It was the Eagles' third consecutive loss.

The two schools - longtime hockey rivals - first met on the basketball court in 1905. Boston College owns a 39-17 all-time edge.

Partin, last week's America East Conference player of the week, came in averaging 23.4 points per game. He had 10 points at the half on just 3-of-10 shooting.

The teams were tied 31-all at halftime. Boston shot just 33.3 percent (11 of 33) in the opening 20 minutes and was 6 of 21 on 3-pointers. They traded leads four times in the first 9 minutes of the second half before Boston University took the lead for good, 47-45, on Griffin's 3 from the right wing.

After Griffin's long jumper - his second in 3 minutes - Zach Chionuma had a driving basket in the lane and Patrick Hazel hit two free throws, making it 51-45 with 9:12 to play.

Boston College's Ryan Humphrey hit a 3 before Boston University scored the next seven points - all by Partin. He nailed consective jumpers - one from each wing - before hitting a 3 from the left corner, making it 58-48 with 7:26 left.

The Eagles made a brief spurt, cutting it to six twice, the last in Dennis Clifford's baseline jumper with 2:48 left. But Partin nailed another 3 on the next trip down, increasing Boston University's lead to 68-59 with 2 1/2 minutes to play.

In the first half, Boston College used a 12-1 run midway into the game to open a 25-16 edge. Ryan Anderson and Jordan Daniels each had a pair of baskets during the spree. But Boston University, held without a field goal for more than 5 minutes, answered by scoring 15 of the final 21 points to force the halftime tie.

It was part of a BC-BU sports weekend, but the first time the two schools had met on the court since 2004. The Terriers beat the Eagles' hockey team in the same building on Friday night, and were scheduled to meet again on Boston University's campus Saturday night.
