Vertical Wingspan Draft Range
  • Conference USA's Player of the Year, Smith excels both defensively and offensively. He was the conference's Defensive Player of the Year in 2014, and has been named all-league the last three years on that side. Offensively, Smith was one of the leading assist men in the entire country for each of the last two years, finishing first and second in assists nationally each of the last two seasons. His unselfishness on that end is sometimes a problem, but he's the kind of guy that coaches will want to have.
  • Two things stick out when watching Smith play. First, he's a terrific passer that has both every pass in the book (especially when pushing the ball in transition) and great vision. That will play well on the next level when put in conjunction with his above-average athleticism and good length. The second thing is his defense, which due to his athleticism and high motor is top-notch for a point guard. He gets into passing lanes to force steals as well as pester offensive playmakers.
  • It's really hard to make it in the NBA when you don't look to shoot the ball, and Smith suffers from that problem. While he shot 36 percent from 3 each of the past two seasons on nearly 200 attempts, he just simply doesn't look for his own shot nearly enough for it to be counted as a true threat. He also really struggles to finish around the rim and doesn't have much of an in-between game. He'll need to either learn to finish or become a more confident shooter to make it.
