Vertical Wingspan Draft Range
34.5 6-11.5 14-25
  • Dekker catapulted himself up draft boards with a terrific NCAA Tournament, but I might express a bit of caution before going overboard and drafting him in the lottery. He's a really smart player with good size, but he's not a great defender yet, is kind of in-between forward positions, and was inconsistent shooting the ball. The athleticism and basketball IQ should play well, but the small Tournament sample size shouldn't outweigh the full seasons we've seen.
  • He has absolutely tremendous feel for the game, and has pretty solid mechanics to build off of with every skill. He has an okay shot, decent ball-handling skills, and knows how to pass. At 6-9 with a 6-11 wingspan, he'll probably play some small-ball 4, which is a role he'll be very suited to in the NBA. Finally, he really understands off-ball movement and just knows how to get open.
  • The problem with Dekker is that he doesn't really have that one elite skill. He needs to work on his shooting consistency. Also, despite his solid size and athletic fluidity, he isn't a great defender yet, and seems to be more in-between positions than versatile. In fact, his general consistency as a player needs to be upped from game to game.Dekker has the frame and tools to make it, but he's still a work in progress in a lot of ways.
Mock Draft
  • Round: 1    Pick: 23

    Gary Parrish's Analysis:

Gordon Hayward is a restricted free agent who could be too pricey for the Jazz. If so, perhaps Dekker could be a fine successor on the wing. (Previous: 17)

  • Round: 1    Pick: 24

    Zach Harper's Analysis:

The Bobcats can use a shooter at the forward position like Dekker. He has struggled from 3-point range this season, but nobody doubts his ability to stretch the floor at the NBA level. (Previous: 34)
