Jackrabbits report: Getting inside

South Dakota State had a mixed bag of a roster in 2009-10, with three accomplished seniors in Garrett Callahan, Mark Engen and Kai Williams to go along with a combined eight freshmen and sophomores.

Coach Scott Nagy was hoping to get the Jackrabbits together enough to make a run at the Summit League title, but SDSU just couldn't find the consistency it needed, finishing in fourth in the conference at 10-8. Overall, though, the Jacks were below .500 at 14-15.

Much like the team's season-ending loss to IPFW in the Summit League quarterfinals, with Callahan getting a chance in the final seconds to make a big shot but coming up short, the Jacks seemed to be right on the precipice of big things, only to fall just short.

Still, the season had its moments, but too many of them came against teams below the Jacks in the standings, not against some of the top teams in the conference.

SDSU should have a decent team next year, although four-year starters Callahan and Williams will be missed. But they've left a legacy with SDSU of turning around the program from the six-win team they came to four years ago.
