Tigers report: Strategy and personnel

Strategy and personnel · Notes, quotes · Inside slant

THIS WEEK'S GAME: The Tigers have an open date this week to prepare for a stretch run that includes four winnable SEC games.

QBs Marcus Randall and JaMarcus Russell -- Russell started his first game last week at Florida and three two quick interceptions before suffering an ankle injury that opened the door for Randall to come in and lead the Tigers to a last-minute victory. Randall earned the SEC offensive player of the week award after connecting on 18 of 27 passes for 198 yards and two TDs, including the game-winner with 27 seconds left in the game.

MLB Lionel Turner -- The senior leader of LSU's front seven ranks sixth in the SEC with 45 tackles to go with two sacks.

With senior CB Corey Webster sidelined by a knee injury in last week's win at Florida, senior Ronnie Prude started at quarterback and true freshman Chevis Jackson and sophomore Keron Gordon became key players in LSU's nickel and dime defensive packages. "Keron Gordon and Chevis Jackson both really played well for the first time in any significant amount," LSU coach Nick Saban said. "To play without Corey, I was really proud of the job that those guys did."
