It will limit him to hitting from the left side for the time being, the Associated Press reports.

The switch-hitting veteran's ability to still produce despite the limitation Thursday was encouraging, and Lowrie has actually posted a better OPS (.728) and hit 11 of his 14 home runs against right-handed pitching this season. The 19-year-old wasn't able to replicate his breathtaking .374/.475/.687 line from Low-A prior to his promotion, but he still turned in an extremely impressive campaign overall. Curiously, after attempting just a single steal at the lower level, Walker ran much more often with Peoria, and to good effect -- he was caught just twice. Don't count on him running too much in the majors with his massive frame, though. Even at his tender age, Walker is already big and strong at 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, and he projects to hit for big-time power down the line. Don't sleep on him.

White Sox's Mike Wright: Receives two-game ban
    1h ago

Wright had his suspension for intentionally throwing at Shohei Ohtani reduced to two games and will begin serving the ban Friday at Cleveland, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Wright was initially handed a three-game suspension for throwing at Ohtani last week, but the right-hander appealed and had one contest knocked off. Wright will be able to rejoin the White Sox's active roster ahead of Sunday's series finale.

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Draws three more free passes
    1h ago

Ohtani went 0-for-1 with three walks, a run and a stolen base in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Astros.

Ohtani hasn't had much of a chance to swing the bat lately, as he has racked up seven walks in his past two games. Fortunately for fantasy managers who roster him, Ohtani's speed gives him fantasy value even when he isn't knocking the ball out of the park. The two-way star has doubled his career high with 24 thefts on the campaign, tied for eighth-most in baseball.

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Returns to lineup
    2h ago

Cabrera (back) will bat cleanup while serving as the designated hitter Friday against the Royals, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Cabrera exited Monday's game against the White Sox. He was absent from Tuesday's lineup and the Tigers haven't played since then due to a rainout and a scheduled off day. Cabrera should be good to go for the final three series of the season, but his .709 OPS on the season means he's unlikely to be a very exciting fantasy option.

Athletics' Mitch Moreland: Gets cortisone shot for wrist
    16h ago

Moreland (wrist) received a cortisone shot last week and still could require surgery this offseason, the team's official site reports.

The veteran landed on the injured list due to a tendon issue in his wrist Aug. 31, and he's running out of time to make a return before the end of the regular season. Team trainer Nick Paparesta acknowledged the need for a possible surgery "down the road", although the team and Moreland are set to wait out the effects of the cortisone shot for the time being before any further course of action is determined.

Torrens hit a two-run home run in his only at-bat Thursday against the Athletics.

Torrens wasn't in the starting lineup Thursday, though he took advantage of his opportunity as a pinch hitter. He went yard against Jake Diekman in the sixth inning to record his 15th homer of the season. Prior to this long ball, Torrens had failed to go deep across his last 80 at-bats since Aug. 17. Overall, Torrens is hitting .236/.299/.431 across 345 plate appearances for the season.

Alvarez (soreness) isn't starting Thursday's game against the Angels, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Alvarez was replaced in the eighth inning of Wednesday's win over the Angels due to soreness, and he'll get a day to rest in Thursday's series finale. Whether he's available off the bench remains to be seen, but Kyle Tucker will serve as the designated hitter while Jose Siri starts in right field.
