The Angels acquired Vargas, outfielder Matthew Lugo, infielder Niko Kavadas and right-hander Ryan Zeferjahn from the Red Sox on Monday in exchange for right-hander Luis Garcia, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Vargas has a 3.03 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 34 strikeouts in 35.2 innings across 11 appearances split between Single-A and the rookie-level Florida Complex League this season. He is just 19 years old and has cut his walk rate significantly after walking 24 in 34 innings in the Dominican Summer League last season.
