Aplin was optioned to minor league camp Wednesday, Julia Morales of ROOT Sports reports.

He remains on the 40-man roster but it's fair to wonder how much longer that will be the case. Aplin struggled in 12 appearances with the big club this spring, going 1-for-9 with a single and two strikeouts, on the heels of a 2016 campaign in which he slashed just .223/.300/.318 in 116 games in the PCL. The 25-year-old does have some speed and is just 25, but the fact that he was included among this round of roster cuts is telling.
