Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle suggested Fiers could work as the long man out of the Astros' bullpen this season.

Dallas Keuchel, Lance McCullers, Collin McHugh, Doug Fister and Scott Feldman are the current favorites to open 2016 in the Astros' starting rotation, leaving Fiers -- who made 30 starts between Milwaukee and Houston last season -- on the outside looking in. However, the 30-year-old right-hander would be a huge upgrade over the relievers used in the long man role last season, as he's far more talented than Roberto Hernandez, Jake Buchanan and Kevin Chapman. Of course, Fiers could easily slide back into the rotation if injuries occur or any of the projected starters struggle. Keep in mind no official announcement has been made as to Fiers' role for Opening Day and this is purely speculation early in spring training.
