The Blue Jays claimed Valera off waivers from the Padres on Thursday.

Though Valera isn't even arbitration-eligible yet, he's now changed organizations seven times since signing with the Cardinals in May 2010 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. He'll be joining Toronto for the second time, as he was previously claimed by the Blue Jays last September before being dropped from the 40-man roster in February and scooped up by San Diego. Valera will report to Toronto's summer camp this week and will look to win a job as a utility infielder on the club's 30-man Opening Day roster.
