Newcomb (2-8) took the loss Thursday against the Cubs after allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits with three walks and seven strikeouts over five innings.

Newcomb settled down after surrendering a pair of first-inning tallies, but did allow a costly unearned run in the third on a bases-loaded walk following a Jace Peterson error. While the rookie southpaw has shown tantalizing upside with 83 strikeouts in 79.1 innings, he has also walked 47 batters for an unacceptable 5.3 BB/9. He'll hope for better luck Wednesday against the Rangers.
