Yelich will undergo season-ending back surgery Friday.
Yelich was placed on the 10-day injured list July 24 due to low-back inflammation, which has been an issue for him over the past few seasons. He was focused on rest and rehab since landing on the IL, but due to a lack of progress in his recovery over the past few weeks, the three-time All Star has elected to undergo surgery and shift his focus to being 100 percent healthy for 2025. He'll end his season with a slash line of .315/.406/.504 with 21 stolen bases, 44 runs scored, 11 home runs and 42 RBI across 314 plate appearances. Gary Sanchez, Jake Bauers and Tyler Black should continue to split time at designated hitter with Yelich sidelined for the rest of the season.
