The Marlins released Lopes on Sept. 1.

Lopes was added to the Marlins' 60-man roster pool Aug. 4 and had been working out at the organization's alternate training site in Jupiter for about a month before receiving his walking papers. The 27-year-old spent the 2019 season in Texas' organization, slashing .265/.366/.422 with 13 home runs and 14 stolen bases between stops at Triple-A Nashville and Double-A Frisco.
