Cubs' Addison Russell: Could be back in action this weekend
Russell (foot) will go through one last workout prior to Saturday's game and should be able to return to the field if all goes well, Jesse Rogers of ESPNChicago.com reports.
Russell may be able to rejoin the starting lineup by the end of the weekend barring any last-minute setback in his recovery, which has progressed well in the last couple weeks. Manager Joe Maddon expectedly stated that Russell will need regular days off, especially without a rehab assignment available, and won't play the full nine innings of any games at first, which will be sure to limit his upside over the last few weeks of the season. Javier Baez is at shortstop for Friday's series opener against St. Louis in his stead.
