Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Uncertain to return before All-Star break

Hendricks (hand) admitted Saturday that he's uncertain if he'll be able to return from the 10-day disabled list before the All-Star break, Carrie Muskat of reports. "We're basically in a waiting game now until I'm asymptomatic," Hendricks said. "I'm just coming in every day, and it has to be any one of these days. Hopefully this week I become asymptomatic, and we can go with the throwing program from there. The throwing program wouldn't be too long, since I was already in season."

Hendricks recently underwent a second MRI on his stiff hand that revealed no new information, so the right-hander will simply have to let the pain subside before he resumes playing catch. While Hendricks won't need much time to ramp up once he's cleared to throw again, the uncertain return timeline may make it difficult to justify holding him in shallower formats with limited bench spots.
