Darvish was ruled out for the season Tuesday after being diagnosed with a stress reaction on the tip of his elbow in addition to a triceps strain, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic Chicago reports.

The prognosis didn't look good after Darvish was forced to leave his rehab start Sunday at Low-A South Bend after just one inning, and Tuesday's news confirms as much. He'll be shut down for the next six weeks, which won't leave him with enough time to build back up even if the Cubs make a deep postseason run. It's expected that Darvish will be back to full strength for the start of spring training, but the Cubs will likely remain cautious with him, given that he has already suffered multiple setbacks in his recovery.
