Butler signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox, MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports.
With the Red Sox boasting solid depth at catcher, the 29-year-old Butler will likely spend the vast majority of his season in the minors. He posted a .227/.316/.316 slash line for Triple-A Syracuse.
