Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Keon Broxton, Domingo Santana, A.J. Griffin delivering on potential
Intriguing Brewers outfielders Keon Broxton and Domingo Santana, Rangers righty A.J. Griffin and a top-20 closer in Detroit are among the waiver targets Heath Cummings is highlighting.
One of the worst feelings in the Fantasy world is giving up on a guy too soon. Former Keon Broxton owners can tell you all about it right now.
Broxton was a popular breakout candidate coming in to the season with a power/speed combination that made scouts drool. He had plenty of opportunity on a bad team in one of the best hitter's parks in baseball. The only thing that could hold him back was his disastrous strikeout rate. or at least we thought it could.
Broxton is actually striking out more this year (37 percent) but the way he's going right now for the Brewers, I doubt his owners care. After starting the year with a .169/.258/.305 slash line through his first 66 PA, Broxton has caught fire. He has a hit in eight of his past nine games and sports a 1.300 OPS over that time. Broxton is still striking out too much (32.4 percent) over this stretch, but it's more of an annoyance than a debilitating fault at the moment.
Broxton's going well right now, but he's not the only Brewer you should be considering.

A.J. Griffin
Texas SP
|
| Do I know what to make of A.J. Griffin? Nope. But when you throw a complete game shutout, you get a spot in the waiver wire column. Griffin's improved control has been the most important improvement from 2016 and it could be real. He had good, if not great, control in Oakland in 2012 and 2013. I'd still like to see Griffin pitch well at home for the Rangers before I totally buy in, but we don't have that luxury now. | |

Yonder Alonso
Oakland 1B
|
| What else is there to question? Alonso hit his 10th and 11th home runs on Tuesday for the Athletics and now has three home runs on the season against lefties. I'm not saying he's going to maintain this pace, but you should expect to own him in Roto all season and you should ride him in points leagues while he stays hot. | |

Justin Wilson
Detroit RP
|
| I know you've already seen Wilson's name in this column this week, but his ownership percentage tells me you haven't seen it enough. Wilson is a top-20 closer who should be owned across the board. The Tigers' lefty ranks seventh among all relievers in K percentage is tied for third in WHIP (0.55). | |

Aaron Altherr
Philadelphia RF
|
| Altherr hit another home run on Tuesday and is now at a blistering .423/.531/.923 in seven games in May. He's hitting near the top of the order for a Phillies team that has been surprisingly productive. I've written plenty about Altherr recently. Stop being stubborn and just add him. | |

Domingo Santana
Milwaukee RF
|
| Santana hasn't been as hot as Broxton lately but he's quietly on pace for a 24 HR/14 SB season with nearly 80 runs scored. His .342 OBP is especially impressive when you consider his BABIP is just .270 so far. The key has been lowering his K rate to 24 percent. If that is actually an improvement in skill, Santana should flirt with a .270 average and an .850 OPS. | |
