First Pitch: Think Lance Lynn and Orioles bats at home
Editor's note: FanDuel.com is hosting a one-day $85,000 Fantasy Baseball contest for Wednesday's games. It's $2 to enter and first prize is $8,000. Starts Wednesday at first pitch. Click here to join .
The only thing I can really hope for you is that you avoided the Carlos Carrasco fiasco on Tuesday night. Thankfully it sounds like Carrasco is doing just fine, which I'm sure is more than you can say for any lineup that employed him.
The advertisements say that this is the best part about DFS, if your player gets hurt you just pick a new one tomorrow. From that perspective it's really no different than if he had a terrible outing, except you don't feel responsible for the terrible score next to his name.
Wednesday's slate is another split one, with four games in the afternoon and 11 in the evening. I'll be focusing on the evening slate, but if I had to pick one starter for the afternoon it would be Trevor Bauer. I'd also be all in on the Nationals RH bats against Wade Miley.
Matt Harvey did indeed get a win but I still felt a little disappointed in his performance. In fact, some of the best pitcher advice actually came in my afternoon tournament article when I mentioned Kendall Graveman and Odrisamer Despaigne. There is one cheap favorite that I like a lot tonight.
Lance Lynn ($8,700) vs. Brewers: Lynn dominated the Cubs but still lost in his first start. His second start comes at Busch Stadium, where he has been a much better starter. Lynn has a 2.80 ERA at home over his career, where he's won nearly 70 percent of his decisions. The Brewers offense has sputtered a bit out of the gate and I don't see them getting healthy against Lynn.
Brandon Morrow ($6,600) vs. Diamondbacks: Morrow has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career, but when he has been healthy he has been pretty effective. He struck out seven Giants in his first start and now faces an even better matchup at home. As long as he continues to strike out a batter an inning, you can deal with the fact that he's going to give up some runs at this price.
Jonathon Niese ($7,800) vs. Phillies: Niese was disappointing in his first start, striking out only two, but a matchup against the Phillies makes him the biggest Vegas favorite of the day. The Phillies have a lefty-heavy offense, which also plays into his favor. Expect him to ratchet up the strikeouts in this one and pick up a win.
Orioles vs. Nathan Eovaldi: The Orioles at home are always a popular pick, but against Eovaldi it's not hard to completely fall in love. Eovaldi was solid last year for the Marlins, but I have a really difficult time projecting that to the AL East. The Orioles lead the AL with 13 home runs, I expect they will add to that total today.
Cardinals vs. Wily Peralta: Peralta had a solid first start and is really good against right handed hitters. On the other hand, he gets crushed by lefties and the Cardinals have enough of them in the lineup to make him pay. This is a strictly LH only stack.
Blue Jays vs. Erasmo Ramirez:
1. Jose Bautista ($4,800) vs. Ramirez
2. Adam Jones ($4,900) vs. Eovaldi
3. Buster Posey ($4,400) vs. Matzek
4. Anthony Rizzo ($4,300) vs. Marquis
5. Matt Carpenter ($4,100) vs. Peralta
2. Evan Gattis ($2,900) vs. Pomeranz
3. Devon Travis ($2,500) vs. Ramirez
