The Cubs selected the contract of infielder Jonathan Herrera Sunday, awarding him a spot on the team's Opening Day roster. Matt Szczur has also made the team as a reserve outfielder.
Herrera hit .293/.341/.317 in 41 spring at-bats to earn a roster spot. Szczur hit .354/.426/.792 with five home runs, nine RBI and three stolen bases in 48 spring at-bats.
Outfielder Ryan Sweeney was designated for assignment Sunday to clear a 40-man roster spot for Herrera.
