Montgomery elected free agency Friday instead of accepting an outright assignment to the minors.
Montgomery missed most of the 2020 campaign with a lat strain, throwing just 5.1 innings. After posting a 3.35 ERA from 2016 through 2018, he'll hit the open market as a 31-year-old who's managed a 4.95 ERA over the last two seasons.
