Orioles' Seth Smith: Hit by foul ball Thursday

Smith is being monitored after a foul ball hit his upper cheek Thursday, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.

During one of his four plate appearances Thursday, Smith hit a foul ball that came up and struck his upper cheek. Although it avoided his eye, he experienced some swelling which interfered with his vision. It's promising that Smith was able to remain in the game and hit a home run in his next at-bat, but the Orioles are going monitor his status heading into Thursday's game against the Blue Jays. If Smith has to be withheld from the lineup, Mark Trumbo or Joey Rickard would likely occupy his spot in right field.
