The Phillies designated Guthrie for assignment Monday, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for first baseman Darick Hall (thumb), who was activated from the 60-day injured list. Guthrie, 27, had just been optioned to the minors last week after going 4-for-24 at the plate with the big club.
