Phillies' Kevin Gowdy: Drafted by Phillies with 42nd overall pick

The Phillies have selected Gowdy with the 42nd overall pick in the 2016 first-year player draft.

Gowdy is among the more polished high school arms in this draft. He has three pitches already; his fastball and changeup both have nice downward action, while his slider has the potential to be a wipeout pitch. Gowdy is 6-foot-4 and has some room to fill out. His command was impeccable as a senior, as Gowdy posted a 93:5 K:BB in 56.2 innings. Consistency with his offspeed pitches is the next step in Gowdy's development, but it appears he is already ahead of the curve.
