Pirates' Jung Ho Kang: Officially added to winter ball squad
Kang (suspension) is listed as a roster member of the Aguilas Cibaenas squad for the Dominican Professional Baseball League this winter, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
After being found guilty of a third DUI in his native South Korea in March, Kang was denied a work visa to return to the United States and hasn't played anywhere this season. The Pirates still retain Kang's rights after placing him on their restricted list, so in an effort to find at-bats for the third baseman following a long layoff from baseball activities, the organization approved his participation in winter ball in preparation for a potential reinstatement in 2018. It's still unclear if or when Kang may be cleared to play in the United States again, as his status ultimately hinges on the decision of the Korean court system.
