Taveras was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, John Blake of the Texas Rangers reports.
Taveras was expected to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster, though not in a starting role. However, he was hitless across seven at-bats in spring training and will now begin the season in the minors. Taveras spent the majority of the 2021 season at Round Rock and hit .245/.343/.475 with 17 home runs and 13 stolen bases across 381 plate appearances.
