Middlebrooks struck out in his pinch-hitting appearance during the Rangers' 8-1 loss to the Mariners on Wednesday.
Since being added to the big-league squad as a Sept. 1 callup, Middlebrooks has seen more action than expected, appearing in seven of the Rangers' last 11 games and batting 3-for-16 with three RBI. Injuries to Mike Napoli (leg) and Adrian Beltre (hamstring) have helped Middlebrooks' case for picking up at-bats, but his responsibilities could dwindle once Napoli is cleared to return. Beltre was activated from the 10-day disabled list earlier this week and deployed as a pinch hitter Wednesday, but his injury probably won't allow him to play the field for the rest of the season.
