Rays' Alex Cobb: Earns first loss of September
Cobb (11-10) earned the loss after allowing three runs on six hits while striking out five batters in 5.1 innings Saturday against the Red Sox.
Cobb couldn't beat the Red Sox for a second consecutive outing, marking his first loss in three September starts, a stretch over which he owns a 2.81 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 17:5 K:BB in 16 innings. The 29-year-old, who is set to become a free agent in the offseason, has enjoyed a nice bounce-back campaign after registering just 22 innings over the past two seasons following Tommy John surgery. He owns a solid 3.63 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 173.1 innings this season, with a 3.41 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 10 starts (58 innings) since the All-Star break. Cobb projects to make his next start against the Orioles on Friday.
