Gadea was selected by the Rays with the fourth pick in the Rule 5 draft Thursday.

The lanky 6-foot-5 righty posted monster numbers at Low-A last season (2.15 ERA, 35.1 percent strikeout rate), but he is probably a few years away from being truly ready to face big league hitters. Tampa Bay will have to keep him on the active roster all season, otherwise he will be exposed to waivers and offered back to the Mariners.
