Young served as the designated hitter Saturday with Hanley Ramirez unavailable due to a sore neck. He went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a 7-1 loss to Houston.

Ramirez has missed the last two games due to the neck injury, paving the way for Young to get a couple of increasingly rare starts. He's started just four of the past 16 games. Ramirez's inability to play regularly in the field has limited him to designated hitter. That development, along with Boston's young and healthy outfield, has served to cap Young's opportunities at the plate.
