Valera logged a 2.35 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 28:14 K:BB in 23 innings across seven starts for Single-A Salem.
Valera's breakout campaign started when he earned Florida Complex League All-Star honors while logging a 1.79 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 40:14 K:BB in 40.1 innings. His walk rate spiked a bit at Single-A, but given that Valera is a 6-foot-3 18-year-old with loud stuff, that's par for the course. He has a mid-90s fastball that regularly touches 97 mph and Valera should only add velocity in the coming years. His slider is much further along than his changeup, which is to be expected at this stage of development.
