The Red Sox selected Sogard's contract from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Sogard is slated to start at second base against left-handed pitching and will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game. The 26-year-old has slashed .279/.382/.439 with 12 home runs and 10 steals in 89 games with Worcester this season. Sogard has experience at every position other than pitcher and catcher, so he could bounce around to different spots, if needed.
