O'Brien's contract was purchased by the Reds on Friday.

Shipped from Tampa Bay to Cincinnati this past trade deadline, O'Brien had a promising 2019 season in the Rays system. He logged a 3.93 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 72:29 K:BB in 68.2 innings at Double-A, and is presumably pretty close to big-league ready at this point. If he can improve his third pitch, he could be a starter, otherwise his fastball/curveball combo would play up nicely in relief.
