Desmond is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
Desmond will take a seat on the bench after starting the first nine games of September, slashing a healthy .303/.343/.394 with three stolen bases in those contests. In his absence, Ryan McMahon will start at first base and hit seventh.
