Herrera fanned two Tigers in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday en route to his 12th save of the season.
Herrera's flawless frame was his first clean inning since May 13 and just his second in 13 games this month. Regardless, the 27-year-old's been getting the job done in style this year, converting 12 of 14 save opportunities while using his elite fastball (averaging 97.5 mph) to post a strong 9.8 K/9. After a slow opening month, the Royals' closer has seen his whiff rate spike dramatically in May. In April, the righty managed a paltry 6.0 K/9, but Herrera's racked up a ridiculous 12.5 K/9 over 13 May innings. He's proven himself to be an elite finisher, and Herrera is expected to draw many suitors over the coming weeks as the trade deadline approaches.
