Royals' MJ Melendez: Shows promise in first pro season

Melendez slashed .262/.374/.417 with 30 RBI and 24 runs over 47 games during his first professional season in the Arizona League.

The Royals' second-round pick in 2017's draft posted strong numbers in the rookie league, including four home runs, three triples and four stolen bases. Melendez, 18, is in line to battle 21-year-old prospect Chase Vallot over the next few years for the job as the club's future catcher.
