Targeting starting pitchers for Fantasy Week 7

On Thursday's Pitchers to Target segment on Fantasy Baseball Today, Scott White and I assessed the Fantasy prospects for several starting pitchers who are owned in between 50 and 70 percent of the leagues on Three of them -- Travis Wood, Ubaldo Jimenez and Bartolo Colon -- are scheduled for two starts in Fantasy Week 7 (May 12-18), so they may not be as available for very long.

I'll be providing in-depth analysis on Wood and Colon in my upcoming Fantasy First Pitch column, as both will make the "bubble list" of two-start pitchers who are viable, but in a borderline way, in standard mixed leagues. As I mentioned in the above video segment, I really like Jimenez as a waiver pickup, but I'll be stashing him until he establishes more consistency.

Particularly compelling among the one-start options for next week is Drew Hutchison, who draws a start at the Rangers. Fantasy owners are used to that being a scary assignment for an opposing pitcher, especially one with flyball tendencies, such as Hutchison. However, the Rangers' lineup isn't what it has been in the past, as only the Royals have a lower team Isolated Power in the American League.

Even if the bats of Prince Fielder and Adrian Beltre suddenly wake up, Hutchison misses enough bats to give himself a chance to provide owners with quality innings. He deserves at least as much consideration as Jimenez and Colon (though less than Wood) as a pickup for Week 7.
