Manager Brad Ausmus said Sunday that Martinez (chest) could resume light workouts in about a week, Brendan Savage of MLive.com reports.

Martinez was hospitalized for two days last week and subsequently placed on the disabled list with an irregular heartbeat, and though he's since been discharged, the Tigers want to give him some time off to recuperate before ramping up his activity. The 38-year-old will stay back in Detroit while the team begins a seven-game road trip this week, but Martinez could be cleared to take batting practice once the Tigers return from the trip if doctors give him the green light. Rather than leaning solely on one player to serve as the designated hitter while Martinez is sidelined, the Tigers are expected to cycle a number of players around at that spot.
