    Player Outlook

While Carlos Gonzalez managed to stay mostly healthy for a third straight season, his production fell off a cliff in his age-31 campaign. Gonzalez managed just 48 total extra-base hits in 534 plate appearances, with a 203/.274/.332 line, six homers and a mere 15 RBI in 66 games away from Coors Field. He hit .206/.241/.321 against left-handed pitching, leading to a 26-point drop in overall wRC+ from the previous season. Gonzalez walked at a career-high rate and did damage against right-handed pitching, but assuming he leaves Colorado in free agency -- or rather, Colorado moves on from him -- he will have a tough time ever returning to 30-homer levels. Gonzalez figures to be platooned more heavily on another club and he hasn't run in years. Don't pay for the past.

    Player News
    • Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with a home run in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Dodgers. Saturday's solo shot was Gonzalez's fifth home run of the month. Coming off a 2016 campaign with 25 home runs and 100 RBI, this season has certainly been a disappointment to fantasy owners as those marks are down to 14 and 57, respectively. However, Gonzalez hit .365/.478/.730 in September, which is perfect timing for a Rockies squad that's headed to the NL wild-card game.

    • Gonzalez (shoulder) is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Marlins, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Gonzalez's injury limited him to one pinch-hit at-bat over the last two games, but he is ready to play a full game again Tuesday. He will man right field and hit third in the Rockies' batting order against Marlins starter Jose Urena.

    • Rockies' Carlos Gonzalez: Out with injured shoulder
      By RotoWire Staff

Gonzalez -- who is not in Sunday's lineup against the Padres -- is dealing with an injured shoulder, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. The specifics of the shoulder injury have not been revealed, but manager Bud Black reported that Gonzalez suffered the injury while attempting a diving catch during Saturday's game. Without knowing more about the injury, it's difficult to estimate how long the right fielder could be sidelined for, so he should simply be considered day-to-day.

    • Rockies' Carlos Gonzalez: Heads to bench Sunday
      By RotoWire Staff

Gonzalez is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Gonzalez is slashing a ridiculous .328/.461/.705 during the month of September but has come up hitless in the first three games of the Rockies' series against the Padres. Manager Bud Black will give the veteran right fielder the day off with Gerardo Parra filling in at right field, with Ian Desmond in left and Mark Reynolds joining the lineup at first base.
